A view of the Castle from the air
Sandal : A view of the Castle from the air

Sandal Castle was one of the principal Yorkist castles during the Wars of the Roses, and the Battle of Wakefield (30 December 1460) was fought between the castle and the bridge over the River Calder at Wakefield. The ditches which surround this medieval stronghold can be seen clearly from the air, although much of the stonework of the castle has disappeared.
