How archaeology fits in:
A Teacher’s Guide to information on the WYAAS Website
There’s a lot of information on the WYAAS website and if you’re a busy teacher you’ve probably not got enough time to sort out something to bring that vital element of local colour to a National Curriculum topic. So to make it easy we’ve done it for you. A Teacher’s Guide to information on the WYAAS website will show you where archaeology fits into your teaching. For more information click here.
Archaeology and Early Years
Using archaeology can provide a fascinating stimulus for learning in young children. Archaeology and Early Years outlines activities that will allow teachers to use simulated archaeological excavations in the classroom at Foundation Stage and KS1. For more information click here.
Ask the Archaeologist
In this feature Dave Weldrake our Education and Outreach Coordinator attempts to answer some of the questions he is most frequently asked by pupils. By reading this you can become the expert in the classroom. There are also suggestions for activities which you can carry out in the classroom so that your pupils can become little experts in their own right. For more information click here.
CHURCHYARD SURVEY:
An on-line teaching resource for KS 2 Maths and History
This cross curricular activity uses a data gathering exercise to study the lives of people during the Victorian period. Using information collected from headstones in their local cemetery or churchyard, children are encouraged to ask questions about such topics as life expectancy in the past: Did men live longer then women? Do rich people live longer than poor ones? What do you think the reason for this might be?
All the teacher will need is here:
- Introduction and lesson plan
- Risk Assessment
- Survey sheet
- Royal Names
