Almondbury, Castle Hill

This hillfort overlooks the Calder Valley and is a prominent local landmark. People used to believe that it was the site of Queen Cartimandua's headquarters, but excavations have suggested that it was abandoned by the 4th century BC and was unoccupied during the Roman period. The site was later reused by the Normans as a castle. The tower was erected to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria
