Condition of monuments.       The majority of standing monuments are likely to be stable. This can be established by a pre-activity visit and conversation with the local vicar/cemetery manager. However, children should still be warned not to lean on them.       All supervisory staff.

Weather       Attention should be drawn to the need for proper clothing. Waterproofs and warm clothing are essential in bad weather. If the weather is too extreme work should be confined to study of monuments indoors. If the weather is hot children should be encouraged to wear a hat and not expose areas of sensitive skin to the sunlight. It would also be a useful idea if the children brought a drink (not pop) to sip.       By all participating organisations.
Before the excavation.
Disabilities/allergies other special needs.       All such conditions should be notified to the project leader.
E.g. sensitivity to insect stings, subject to hay fever etc.).

Estranged parents       Parents need to be made aware that images from fieldwork may be used on the internet or in other forms of publicity. This can attract the attention of estranged husbands/wives. If photographs etc. are to be taken parents/guardians should therefore be asked specifically for permission to take pictures of their children at work, and written consent obtained. In normal circumstances, all slides and images stored on computer will be destroyed after two years to comply with the Data Protection Act. However, images incorporated into websites, display boards etc. may remains in circulation for a longer period of time.       Participating schools before the activity.
